Comparing this to the book Wild Swans by Jung Chang, I prefer this one. In a way, both autobiographies are quite similar: both are speaking from a woman's perspective, same patriotic Chinese background.....but even though Wild Swans is a bigger and more complex novel (which elements of a good novel), I feel more connected with the author in Chinese Cinderalla. Probably it's because the latter is a story I can draw my own similar experiences from......I love the author's sense of justice, truth, and love for the very few people/animals that are close to her.

A very sad period at that time, and initially I thought these books were written to disgrace China or something, and I was like grrr! how dare they, I must read and criticise, but in fairness, if you're a discrete reader, you would find a deep sense of truth in these books that are usually so difficult to put into words. You will definitely know more about the modern history of China, the culture, and traditions, and you will also find some positives about the country out of these books (~Chinese pride ftw~)....
So yeah, if you're having a quiet rainy night in, these books are well worth a read.
Enjoy ! and let me know what you think ^_^
